The Clinic is a place of healing and rejuvenation. A place where someone can come and share his/her
story and problems. It is a space where you can be heard and feel that someone is there to help you and
walk with through the path of healing.
As a Naturopath & Herbalist John uses his skill and knowledge to observe all aspects of your case from
listening to your story and health concerns, to sensing how your body is feeling and using various clinical
diagnostic techniques (tongue, pulse, iridology, BP, etc) to gather as much information as possible before
prescribing herbal formulae and naturopathic advice.
The most important part of this process is the consideration that you the client are a unique personality
and from that point of view as much information needs to be gathered as possible to give an overall
understanding of your constitutional strengthens/weaknesses, and how your mind/emotions & spirit
interplay with the body. John like all good Naturopaths understands that nobody knows more about your
suffering and condition than yourself and it is vital that you are able to express that story without fear of
judgement or criticism.
There is a lot of evidence that supports the idea that if a human being is able to share their problem
unhindered or interrupted then that release is a big part of the initial stage of healing. Part of a
Naturopaths role is to help guide you to the root cause of your condition (this may take a while - like
peeling back the layers of the onion - and may-be just as emotional) by asking specific questions but
being careful not to take the client to places of trauma or pain too quickly.
All Naturopathic treatment puts emphasis on giving the least medicinal intervention as possible. Only
enough advice and help is given - keep it simple - that helps the bodies own innate healing
force/energy/Qi to engage the process and continue healing until balance is restored. If given just the
right amount of help and encouragement the body has all it needs to heal itself.
The role of Naturopathy and Herbal Medicine is to support this healing system not force it or
do the work for it.
Of course when Naturopathy was first envisaged peoples lives had less stressors and environmental
pressures. Their diets were cleaner - no processed, industrial food technology existed at the time. But
today Naturopaths like John may have to work harder - in a lot of cases but not all - to clear away all
these bad influences that suppress the healing force in the body before working to assist the deep healing
that is necessary especially in cases of chronic conditions.
